Biography: Yasin Husain Mamand was born in 1979 in the Choman District of the Kurdistan Region. His childhood was strongly affected by war and displacement. During the Iran–Iraq War, his family was forced to leave their home and move to settlement camps in Soran. He completed his primary and intermediate education there. After the 1991 Uprising and during a period of internal conflict, he returned to Choman, where he finished his secondary education. He studied sociology throughout his academic career. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Salahaddin University in Erbil between 2001 and 2005. In 2009, he received a scholarship to study in India and completed his Master’s degree in Sociology at the University of Pune (Symbiosis) from 2009 to 2011. In 2014, he was awarded another scholarship to study at Lund University in Sweden, where he completed his PhD coursework. He later received his PhD degree from Soran University in 2021. He has worked as a university lecturer at Soran University for more than fourteen years. He teaches courses in Sociology, Political Sociology, Civil Society, Social Psychology, Sociology of Education, Criminology, and Research Methods, including SPSS. His PhD research focused on development and education in the Kurdistan Region. Using postcolonial, modernization, and dependency theories, he criticized the direct copying of Western development and education models without considering local Kurdish culture and social conditions. He supports educational reform that better connects universities with the labor market. Selected Publications: 1. The Role of Education in the Process of Development in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. 2. Nation-Building in Southern Kurdistan, 1921–1991. 3. The Impact of Cultural Capital on Social Inequality in the Education System of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
