Biography: Dr. Sherwan Sharif Qurtas, the president of Soran University since 2021. Was born in February 1975 in Erbil – Kurdistan of Iraq. He studied geology, then MSc. In hydrology, and Ph.D. in Hydrogeology in 2014. He has held various prominent positions in academia and the public sector, from March 2018 to August 2021 he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Prior to these roles, he was entrusted with heading departments in petroleum geosciences, geography, and natural geography. His expertise led him to contribute significantly to higher education committees and governmental bodies within the Ministry. Throughout his career, Dr. Qurtas has worked with UN agencies, companies, and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), the first his official employment was in the Ministry of Irrigation and Agriculture. His professional interests lie in the realms of groundwater management, environmental engineering, and sustainability, driving his dedication to research and innovation in these fields.
